In order to play Settlers of Catan a player must be familiar with how the idea of
scarcity works. Resources in the game need to be combined in specific ways to allow you to build roads, settlements, and cities. To win the game players have to be successful in building their empire. In order to win you have to learn how to trade for resources that you need. This is especially true if a player happens to choose parts of the board whose resources. After watching the videos on the Scramble for Africa (which you can also
find here) answer the following questions below:
- What connection can be made between playing Settlers of Catan and the Scramble for Africa?
- What were the main motivations of the European countries in setting up colonies?
- What factors contributed to indigenous people being horribly mistreated by Europeans?
- In what way could 'settling' Africa have been done in a better way?

The connection could be that the game you need resources too be able too build certain things just like africa they chopped off peoples hands if they could not afford the resources. The more colonies that europeans had the more technology they had. The europeans stole there land and treated those indigenous people like slaves. have all those people who took the places leave and let africa continue living there lives and dealing with the resources and find different ways too buy those resources other then chopping off hands.
ReplyDelete1. as the game settlers of catan is played the competition gets worse. everyone starts trying to own the most land and have the most and best resources. it is just like what happened in africa when the settlers wanted to have the most power.

1. The game is a lot like what actually happened, because it was a big competition, or scramble, over who got the most resources. What happened was a lot like the game, because the people in charge didn't care or think about how they got what they did.

4.I think it could have been settled better then it was. Instead of making them slaves, why not pay the africans a little to do the work. They would still be making a huge profit off everything they could have spared a little. It all comes down to greed. If they don't pay anyone they keep more for themselves.
